About CupDay.com.au | A Big Days Guide to Cup Day
Cup Day is one of Australia's great days of celebration — a day when horse racing, fashion, food, entertainment and social occasions come together to create an event that extends well beyond the racetrack.
CupDay.com.au is your guide to making the most of Cup Day, whether you are looking for a Melbourne Cup Day lunch, a stylish Cup Day event, somewhere to watch the race, or simply ideas for celebrating with friends, family, work colleagues or clients.
What is Cup Day?
Cup Day is traditionally associated with the Melbourne Cup, one of Australia's most famous horse races. Held at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, the Melbourne Cup has become much more than a sporting event. It is a major social occasion celebrated across Australia, with people dressing up, enjoying a long lunch, attending events and gathering together to watch the race.
While the race itself is at the heart of the day, Cup Day celebrations can take many different forms. From major hospitality events and corporate functions to relaxed gatherings at local venues, there is something to suit almost everyone.
Melbourne Cup Day Events
Across Australia, venues make the most of Cup Day by creating special events and experiences for their guests.
Cup Day events can include long lunches, race-day packages, cocktail parties, live entertainment, premium dining, big-screen race broadcasts and celebrations featuring all the atmosphere of the Melbourne Cup.
For businesses, Cup Day can also be an excellent opportunity to entertain clients, reward staff or bring a team together for a memorable day away from the office.
CupDay.com.au helps you discover Cup Day events and celebrations, making it easier to find an occasion that suits your plans.
Cup Day Lunches and Dining
A Cup Day lunch is one of the most popular ways to celebrate.
Restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs and event venues across Australia often create special Cup Day menus and packages, ranging from casual dining through to premium multi-course lunches. Many combine great food and drinks with live entertainment and a prime position to watch the Melbourne Cup.
Whether you are organising a small group of friends, a family celebration, a work function or a corporate lunch, Cup Day provides the perfect excuse to get together.
Cup Day Fashion and Entertainment
Fashion has always been an important part of the Cup Day experience. Race-day style, colourful outfits, fascinators, suits and special occasion wear are all part of the atmosphere.
Many Cup Day events add live music, DJs, entertainment, competitions and themed activities to create a complete race-day experience. For many guests, it is as much about the occasion and atmosphere as it is about watching the race.
Celebrate Cup Day Your Way
There is no single way to celebrate Cup Day. You might choose an elegant Melbourne Cup lunch, a lively pub celebration, a corporate event, a day with friends or a relaxed gathering closer to home.
The best Cup Day celebration is one that brings people together and gives everyone a reason to enjoy the occasion.
